Spreckelsville

Spreckelsville sits along the North Shore coastline between Kahului and Paia, its long white-sand beach facing some of the most consistent wind on Maui. Along with neighboring Kanaha and Hookipa, this stretch of coast is part of the North Shore corridor that made Maui a world windsurfing destination starting in the 1970s and 80s, and it remains a serious spot for windsurfing, kiteboarding, and wing-foiling, with riders on the water most trade wind afternoons. The Maui Country Club golf course occupies part of the interior, and the whole coastal strip falls within the county's Special Management Area given its shoreline location, which shapes what can be built and where. The place name goes back to the plantation era, taken from Claus Spreckels, the sugar baron who founded a company town here in 1878 and once controlled much of the water and land in this part of the island.

A handful of named pockets make up the neighborhood rather than one uniform tract. "Old Sprecks," along streets like Paani, Laulea, Nonohe, and Kealakai, mixes 1950s-era homes with newer builds on smaller lots. "Sprecks V," built out in the early 1990s between Hana Highway and Maui Country Club, tends to offer the more attainable end of local pricing. Kai Holu holds 17 two-acre lots, the largest in the neighborhood, with deeded beach access to Sugar Cove, and E Paepae Ka Pukoa, also known as the Spencer Subdivision, is the newest section, platted on 16 lots running roughly half an acre to just over an acre, with deeded access to Spreckelsville Beach. Only a handful of properties change hands here in a typical year, some years see none at all, and it isn't gated as a whole, though some individual beachfront estates have their own private gates. Prices generally start around $4 million and run past $10 million for beachfront.
