Why we love Makawao

This is cowboy country. Cool breezes and epic viewpoints bless this Paniolo town. It is also home to excellent shopping, the famous Makawao rodeo and a local vibe all situated on the slopes of Haleakala. The largest pineapple plantation on Maui is located in the quaint neighborhood of Haliimaile, as is one of our favorite local restaurants on the island, Haliimaile General Store. Mountain bikers and hikers will love Makawao forest reserve. You can have the best of both worlds, live in the forest just 10 miles from the beach! The Waihou Spring Forest Reserve in Olinda is a popular walking trail among pine trees and yet the North shore coastline is just a short drive away. Retreat back to a mountainside haven post wind and water activities living in this gorgeous upcountry setting.
